Bahrain Attends AWO Meeting in Algeria

Algiers-Feb22(BNA)Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, wife of His Majesty and Supreme Council for Women President today delegated SCW deputy president Dr. Shaikha Mariam bint Hassan Al-Khalifa to attend today the 5th meeting of the Arab Women Organisation (AWO) in Algeria.The session approved minutes of the 4th AWO meeting, which was held in Tunisia on June 25, 2009. It reviewed reports of the AWO executive council and general directorate for the period between June 2009 and February 2012. It also approved the AWO final statement for the years 2008, 2009 and 2010. Two AWO permanent advisory committees have also been set up. The amendment of article 28 of the AWO bylaw has been endorsed paving the way for the permanent youth advisory committee to be established. SCW secretary-general and AWO executive council member Hala Al-Ansari attended the meeting of the preparatory committee for the 4th AWO Conference, set to be held in Algeria in November 2012. She also took part in the 8th extraordinary meeting of AWO executive council and discussed issues featuring on the agenda. Founded in 2002, the organization aims at coordinating pan-Arab stances regarding women’s issues in regional and international arenas, promoting women’s economic, social, cultural, legal and media awareness and exchanging expertise regarding women’s development and integration of their needs in development policies in the Arab world. The organization includes 16 member countries –Jordan, The UAE, Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, Syria, Sudan, Iraq, Oman, Palestine, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritania and Yemen. AHN
