Bahrain means "two seas" in Arabic. As the island is in the middle of a bay, the two seas referred to lie to the east and west respectively.Other authors cite alternate meanings for the name. “The name of Bahrein, which means ‘Two Seas’. Is derived, according to the natives of the country, from the existence of two strata of water located there.
