TEN Kenyans, including six police officers, who were arrested and charged with 'invading' Comoros waters, said miscommunication led to their arrest.

Narrating their ordeal as soon as their ship MV Squirrel landed in Mombasa, the crew said charges of illegally entering Moroni island and carrying police officers without any papers were dropped after a letter arrived from Kenyas Foreign Affairs ministry confirming that the officers were on official assignment.

SIX police officers and four crew members who were arrested by the Comoros authorities were set to arrive in Mombasa yesterday evening. By the time of going to press, the group had set sail from Pemba following their release. They had been held on accusations of carrying weapons illegally. Their weapons, which had been confiscated from them, were returned after they were cleared.

Maputo — It will take up to six months to rebuild the electricity sub-station that was destroyed by fire in Maputo on Sunday, according to the spokesperson for the electricity company (EDM), Celestino Sitoe, cited in Tuesday's issue of the independent newsheet "Mediafax".

The fire left very little of the Maputo City number five substation intact. Sitoe said that replacements for almost all the components will have to be imported.
