Gulf body to focus on Alzheimer's treatment
RIYADH: The first international conference on Alzheimer's disease concluded Wednesday in Riyadh with a resolution to set up a regional body among the Gulf countries that will focus on treating the disease.
Deputy Interior Minister Prince Ahmed, who is also the honorary chairman of Saudi Alzheimer's Disease Association (SADA), inaugurated the conference at King Abdulaziz City for Science and
Technology in Riyadh on Monday.
MoH gets NACC thumbs up for transparency
RIYADH: National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) chief Mohammed Al-Sharif commended the Health Ministry on Wednesday, saying it had chalked out a specific transparent plan to achieve its goals to provide maximum health care to the people.
Al-Sharif made these observations during his meeting with Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah at the ministry's headquarters here.
Riyadh forum highlights role of social media
RIYADH: The impact of the social media on the Saudi family, both in terms of its positives and negatives, was the theme of the first session of the First Riyadh Social Forum held Tuesday.
The event was attended by Social Affairs Minister Yousef Al-Othaimeen on behalf of Prince Salman, minister of defense. The Social Awareness and Rehabilitation Association (WAEE) organized the event, which brought together Saudi academics and intellectuals, among others.
300 private firms to take part in expo on women’s work
JEDDAH: About 300 private companies have confirmed their participation in the third exhibition on women’s work, which will be held under supervision of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) in cooperation with Jeddah municipality and Al-Iman Society for Charitable Services and for the Care of Cancer Patients.
The JCCI is planning to organize the exhibition on women’s work starting from March 26 under the title “Capacity building: Expectations of the future.
Saudi leadership-people bond strong
ALGHAT: Defense Minister Prince Salman on Wednesday highlighted the strong brotherly relationship between the Saudi leadership and its people.
“We are from the people and there is no barrier between us and our people,” Prince Salman said while attending a prize distribution ceremony in Alghat.
He said he was pleased to be among his uncles in Alghat. “Sudairis are the uncles of 13 sons of King Abdul Aziz and a similar number of his daughters,” he pointed out.
Helicopter rescues accident victims
JEDDAH: A Civil Defense helicopter transported two women teachers who were seriously injured in a traffic accident from Sitara village to King Abdul Aziz Hospital in Jeddah on Wednesday.
Lt. Col. Saeed Sarhan, spokesman of Civil Defense in the Makkah province, said the accident took place in Houra village, about 80 km from Thoul, and involved a van carrying four teachers and a pick-up carrying two students.
G20 lawmakers meet set
RIYADH: The third G20 Speakers' Consultation Meeting scheduled to be held in Riyadh on Saturday will be a major milestone in establishing joint parliamentary work among the G20 nations, Shoura Council Chairman Abdullah Al-Asheikh said in Riyadh Tuesday.
Saudi Arabia will host the meeting this year. The theme for the consultation meeting will be “sustainable economic growth for a safe world.
Seasonal rise seen in child abuse cases, says specialist
JEDDAH: A lecture on child abuse took place Sunday at Jeddah’s Al-Hamra School to increase awareness on intentional and unintentional abuse against children.
The lecture, directed to mothers and teachers, was part of the Himayah Protection Society campaign to combat child abuse under the title “Schools Without Violence.” The society hopes the campaign will be implemented at all schools in the Kingdom.

ALKHOBAR: A large number of youngsters affiliated with various universities and secondary schools in the Kingdom attended an interesting workshop organized by the Prince Naif Chair for Youth Development at Prince Mohammad bin Fahd University (PMU).
No deadline to regularize profession for ‘green’ expats
JEDDAH: The Labor Ministry announced Wednesday that it would continue to allow expatriates working in premium and green category companies to change their professions and that there would not be any deadline for them to complete the procedure.
“The process of changing profession is still open for workers in premium and green categories,” said Hattab Al-Anazi, spokesman of the ministry.
