Muscat: Muscat Bridge League will host a Pairs Bridge tournament on May 24 at the Ruwi Hotel.

This tournament is sponsored by Khurshid Trading & Contracting LLC.

According to the organisers of the tournament reporting time is at 2.30pm. The first game will start at 3pm and will be over by 6.30pm.

Ashutosh to face Pranav

Muscat: Top seed Ashutosh Pant will face off against Pranav Rao in the pennant clash for the open men’s singles crown of the BankMuscat-sponsored Annual Badminton Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club Muscat.

The final will commence at 8pm followed by the men’s doubles final, also featuring Ashuthosh and Pranav on either side of the net.

OFA team to attend Fifa meet

Muscat: Sayyid Khalid Al Busaidi, chairman of Oman Football Association (OFA) will head OFA’s delegation to Fifa’s General Assembly meeting to be held on May 24 in Budapest, Hungary.

Sayyid Khaild and the OFA members include Sheikh Hazza Al Saadi, CEO and general secretary of OFA. The team will leave for Hungary on May 23.

Muscat: Assarain qualified for the finals of the Khimji Ramdas sponsored A/B Division T20 tournament when they registered a thrilling last ball win against Al Turki NMC Reds in a Qualifier No.1 match played in the morning session during the week end at the Municipality 1 grounds at Al Amerat.

Electing to bat Al Turki Reds were restricted to 147 for the loss of nine wickets at the end of their quota of 20 overs.

Oman Air Cup draw today

Muscat: Organisers of McDonald’s cricket will hold the draw today for the Oman Air Luxurious Cricket Cup to be held on May 25 at Oman Club.

The teams who have confirmed their participation are Al Faisal Group, Asfandhyar XI, Enhance, Oman Air, Times of Oman, Century CC, Muscat Champions, Al Khoudh CC.

According to the organisers there will be trophies for the winners, runners-up and individual awards.

Abel-Ajin claim junior doubles title

Muscat: Top seeded team of Abel Isaac and Ajin Tom captured the junior doubles title at the BankMuscat-sponsored Annual Badminton Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club Muscat.

In the final, Abel and Ajin proved too good for second seeds Noel Halister and Percy Coelho whom they overwhelmed with a convincing 21-14, 21-11 verdict to lift the title.

With good teamwork and a sound approach, Abel and Ajin gained the early hold on the game and never looked back.

Muscat: Jordan Whitelaw won the Cross Country golf tournament with a score of 43 points at Muscat Hills Golf & Country Club held during the week end.

His mother Sarah Whitelaw turned the best result in the Ladies division and won the female competition with 35 points.

A total of 58 golfers took part in the challenge. The holes were played out of order, sideways, across wadis.

Olympic torch relay starts in Britain

LONDON: Sailor Ben Ainslie was the first torchbearer as the Olympic flame began its 70-day journey around Britain and Ireland yesterday ahead of the 2012 London Games.

The flame arrived in Britain from Greece on Friday and was flown to Land’s End, the southwesterly tip of England, yesterday by a Royal Navy helicopter before it was used to light the torch for the start of the 12,875km relay.

AFC officials inspect venues

Muscat: AFC officials inspected the tournament venues where Oman is hosting the U-22 tournament next month.

Six teams are participating in the tournament that includes India, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkmenistan and UAE.
