List of emirs of Kuwait

This is a list of the emirs of Kuwait. Emirs (also transliterated as amir, aamir or ameer) are the rulers of Kuwait. The House of Al-Sabah dynasty came to power in 1752, before which date the Bani Khalid tribe ruled the region. The Emir, is the head of state, the emir is above, the Executive, Legistlative,and judicial branch. The Emir of Kuwait, is also immune, and inviolable.

The Al Sabah are the royal family of Kuwait and have ruled the country without interruption since 1752 when Sheikh Sabah I was chosen to be the Emir. All of Kuwait's subsequent rulers come from the Al Sabah line and are descended from Sheikh Sabah I.

Art and Crafts in Kuwait is famous all over the world and enriches the culture in Kuwait further more. The Kuwaiti drama troupes have won numerous prizes and have been highly acclaimed all over the world. Some of the popular theatres in Kuwait are the Gulf Theatre, the Popular Theatre, and the Kuwaiti Theatre. In order boost the arts and crafts at Kuwait the Ministry of Information in 1973 established the Higher Institute for Theatrical Arts to encourage the budding future artists in the field of theatrical arts and ethics, and to promote widespread theatrical appreciation and awareness. Another important institute which gives much boost to the art and craft of Kuwait is the Bayt Lothan in Kuwait.

Environmental awareness in Kuwait is poor. Littering and dumping occur on a daily basis. Kuwait has some way to go in educating the wider population about the importance of protecting the environment.

Kuwait located in the desert geographical region, Kuwait has a continental climate characterized by its dry hot long summer and short warm winter with occasional rainfalls. Dusty storms often occur during the summer months. The relative humidity increases and temperature sometimes reaches 50 °C under shadow.

Kuwait is a sovereign Arab emirate on the northwestern, bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south and Iraq to the north and west. The name is a diminutive of an Arabic word meaning "fortress built near water." It has a population of 3.1 million and an area of 17,818 km². Kuwait is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of government, with Kuwait City serves as the country's political and economic capital.

The ruling As Sabah family maintain a tight grip on the centers of power, including many senior posts in the security services.

Kuwait is a member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), exporting the fourth largest volume of oil among the group in 2010. At the same time, Kuwait's economy is one heavily dependent on petroleum export revenues, which account for half of its overall gross domestic product (GDP), 95 percent of total export earnings, and 95 percent of government revenues.
